riverfront park in north charleston is beautiful. i went there yesterday because fellow poet and friend, carlos “los the host” johnson, invited me to perform alongside his youth slam team for the north charleston arts festival. it was my seventh year doing that gig, and i always walk away from it feeling motivated to write and perform more.

the park is tucked behind the naval base - it’s really hard to find, but once you do, you’ll realize just how gorgeous north charleston can really be.

one definition of ‘apocalypse’ is “a disclosure of something hidden from the majority of mankind in an era dominated by falsehood and misconception.”
in that case, i hope the Mayans were right. let’s push toward a higher form of consciousness. time to get our shit together, people.

How has iTunes ruined or saved music?

Personally not a fan of digital music. Happy 2 say we grew up with the record player. Altho this current generation experiences the world differently - neither better nor worse, just different. It’s not up 2 the past 2 dictate. That said, the decision 2 turn analog music in2 numerical data was not made by a musician. It was made by a music consumer. We all got dragged unwittingly 2 this well and r now paying the cost. When hipping a young artist 2 Joni Mitchell’s canon of work, we don’t direct them 2 iTunes. We sit them down and play the music chronologically.

this is my baby. i’ve had this casio sk-5 since 1987, and have used it for many different music projects. amazing that this little machine still works. you can sample your voice! there’s a rhythm pad (complete with “laser gun” sounds)! you can make a drum beat! oh, technology.

i finished the design of book no. 4 last night. it will be called “the present presence” and should be birthed in may.
i’m very excited to let my new baby out into the world. the poems in this book date back to 2008.
i’m interested in promoting and marketing it in a different way than i’ve done before. i’m also more interested in doing “conversations” instead of “poetry performances.” i’d like anyone who attends an event to bring a poem (or something they’ve written), and share that work with others. let’s keep the dialogue open.
this spirit of this book is begging me to have fun with it. watch out world!
stay tuned ….
